Dos And Don’ts Of Clothing Alterations

August 18, 2007

Hi all……After all the blues I and my friends suffered at the hands of tailors and alteration people, I decided to do something about it. I decided to do some research regarding dos and don’ts about tailoring and especially clothing alterations.

I read stuff online, in fashion magazines and talked to the experts. Hey, I almost felt like fashion journalist! Not a bad feeling at all. After all we will be wearing clothes all our lives. And may be I can give it a go as career option (fashion journalist bit, silly). Any ways I reached some pretty interesting solutions to the clothing alteration blues. Here they are for all of you to read and add to it:

  • Whatever else you do; never cut a dress!
  • Try not to unstitch a finished garment. It will be very difficult to re-stitch them.
  • Thread type should be according to the fabric type.
  • Different fabrics react differently to the alterations, so before actual alteration, understand the type of fabric: muslin or knitted, or woven……whatever.
  • Follow the manufacturers’ direction regarding construction of the garment to minimize the human error.
  • Confirm the accuracy of measurements by matching a well fitting dress to the one in need of adjustments.

Hey guys, plz gimme feedback whether my observations regarding dress alterations are correct, and do add your bits. To start with, visit alterations.com. Take my word; its awesome.

Be careful when giving your new garment for alterations

July 26, 2007

Buying new clothes is a delightful experience. But many a time, you might have to alter them to fit you perfectly. And that can be quite a hassle. Particularly, a faulty alteration can just ruin that new and expensive garment you picked up so lovingly. Nothing can be more tragic than to see it

Sometime back, my sister gave her favorite pair of jeans to a tailor; not knowing much about his skills and expertise, and the result was disastrous.

Finding skilled and professional tailors was becoming difficult, but one day while browsing through alterations.com we found a list of various tailoring services available in and around our town.

This awesome site provides detailed list of the tailoring shops anywhere in USA through a highly advanced search. It also gives details of tailors providing highly sensitive and sophisticated bridal alteration services. It solved my sister’s problem, it might just solve yours.

Get that perfect fit with custom tailoring

July 21, 2007

In my opinion, getting clothes custom tailored is a Herculean task, as only an experienced and a skilled tailor can do justice to the expensive clothing.

My friend was never happy with the ready-made suits. Thanks to his short stature, expensive and often disastrous alterations were the only way out. Custom tailoring seemed the best and the only solution. But finding an experienced tailor to make that perfect suit fulfilling his requirements was a tough job.

I suggested him to visit www.alterations.com which has comprehensive information on all the custom tailors and alterations services available in your neighborhood and in fact all over USA. Now he wears suits which are envy to all.

You want to know how! Just write your town’s name or the zip code and this awesome website will provide the list and location of the custom tailoring service in your town. Now you can get that perfect piece at your choice of tailor, at your choice of price.
